I have over 30 years experience in teaching history and English literature, at varying levels from complete beginners to University level studies. My aim is that my classes should be enjoyable, informative, comprehensive and interesting, stimulating students to ask questions and to think 'around' the subject they are studying. I try to make the people/events discussed very real and relevant, so that students can not only form a link with the people/events discussed, but can gain insight into the driving motivations behind them. Discussion of topics will form part of learning.
My strategy is to teach to the students' strengths and to enable them to freely discuss strategies/teaching methods that they find difficult, so that we can find ways around possible problems in an examination/assessment setting. The aim is for students to tackle assessments/exams feeling confident that they are well-prepared.
Study skills and time management are absolutely essential for assessment/exam success, and these will form part of all lessons.
