I’ve been a professional Drum tutor for several years, both for myself & endorsed by Yamaha music. I’m able to teach in both group & 1-1 lesson environments, adapting to every individuals students needs or necessities. Be that learning by demonstration, sight reading, learning by ear or through fun bitesize games to eventually complete a task!
I’m fully able to teach Rockschool, Trinity & Yamaha syllabus to see students through their grades, with a high pass rate of students on average achieving Merits or Distinctions.
I also have a background working with students who may need assistance with learning difficulties or struggle with basic hand-eye coordination skills. I understand the pressures of school, homework, kids wanting to be kids, their social lives & family time. So whilst I underline the importance & benefits of developing a hard work ethic via the medium of Drums to carry through into other elements of life, I’m also consciously aware to make my lessons as fun, engaging, interactive & open-minded as well.
I make a point to ask all my students at the end of each lesson if they have questions about anything I’ve taught. Speaking from experience at school, I remember being quite shy to ask questions, as I felt either my question would be mocked or dismissed by my peers or teachers. I try to remove that stigma & encourage questions, as they are the source to seeking wisdom & bonding with students.
Not all tutors have to be closed off constantly in terms engagement - a clear open line of communication is integral to students listening & subsequently learning off the back of hanging onto a tutor’s every word!
