Marcus Hodgkinson

I am a native English speaker who has experience teaching students of all skill levels and ages. I have a Bachelor of Honors degree in Psychology.

My 4 years of teaching English as a Foreign language have given me the skills and experiences needed to keep my lessons informative and fun. The most important thing for me is to make sure students feel relaxed and comfortable with me. I want to make sure that students feel confident in themselves, regardless of their level of English speaking.

I approach my lessons based on the initial level of understanding that the student has. Therefor, I like to start by having a relaxed and basic conversation which allows me to gauge the comprehension of any given student. It is important for me that students are not just increasing their own English levels, but are doing so in a way that is enjoyable for them. I am always keen to know what interests and hobbies a particular student has and structure my lessons from there. For example, if a student tells me they enjoy playing football, or has a favorite movie, I will do my best to work those interests into the structure of my lessons so that students feel engaged in what is being said.

I have two core aims when teaching; Pronunciation and sentence structure. My lessons will focus on increasing these two skills, as I believe they are essential in developing a practical application of the English language.

I aim to make my lessons a space for students to let go of their own insecurities in regards to speaking English and give them the skills to go out into the world and speak confidently!
