Marco Torres

During my academic development and working assignments in the different institutions, in which I have collaborated, I have conducted research in different fields of Earth Sciences addressing problems of detection of groundwater and mineral resources, urban growth and ecological degradation, mainly with the use of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems. I have experience to collect, transform, analyze, and produce great amounts of data, and I am familiar with Big data processing.

In the aspect of human resources training, I have been advisor of undergraduate and master's thesis to support the development of students, in the Faculty of Engineering at UNAM and the Graduate Program on Earth Sciences at the Mexican, National Autonomous University (UNAM). I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses for more than 20 years at UNAM.

All my professional activities have always been linked to government and private organizations that benefit from the research work carried out at the University. I have worked in collaboration with research institutions to promote the exploration and the sustainable and orderly exploitation of national resources in Mexico. I have participated in research projects supported by Mexican entities. Additionally, I have endeavored to carry out capacity building projects that have been sponsored by diverse entities. Since 2017, I have participated in the design and actualization of the course "Introduction to Geothermal" on the Coursera Platform, which is the first online course on geothermal energy in Spanish, and currently I am participant in a group to actualize the Master Degree in Earth Science, working on the programs of GIS and Remote Sensing.
