In my experience in schools with teenage pupils, I learned how to engage them by always suggesting actual real-life usages of the language. My approach is that of starting from authentic language sources to then focus on the structure of the language itself. This includes viewing audiovisual contents from the Internet and social media, and analysing them together to grasp the meanings they entail. Once the students get to know a specific feature of the language by getting in touch with its actual realisation in real-world interactions, I usually focus on fixing the rules by developing tailored exercises in which learners can autonomously apply what they learned. I dedicate much time to oral interactions and conversation: each session is interactive, discussion-based, and tailored to one's goals, whether that’s improving fluency, acquiring more lexicon (or specific kinds of writing), or developing nuanced communication skills. You can expect dynamic conversations, analysis of texts, and practical exercises that challenge you to think and express yourself naturally with the tools I aim to provide you with.
My goal is to create a structured yet flexible learning environment that encourages first of all trust between learner and teacher. This is the first requisite to foster the understanding and confident usage of the language.
In my lessons, I usually rely on authentic materials such as news articles, podcasts, academic texts, and interviews chosen depending on the students' level and requirements. This approach ensures that you receive a tailored boost to your learning of the language while engaging with it as it is naturally spoken and written, helping you refine your comprehension and expression.
