I am originally from Brazil with Portuguese background, which aloud me to navigate easily on both varieties of Portuguese either Brazilian or European.
In my experience as a tutor for professionals in transnational companies and pupils in language schools, I've learnt how to listen to the student needs and goals, understanding that and adapting the material and pace of the classes to better suit them.
I use a renowned book collection as part of the didactic material mixed up with daily context and familiar information to illustrate the classes. In addition, I like using the student own culture, favourite topics and knowledge as a common ground to bring in the new language, vocabulary and sounds, avoiding in this way that some students may panic or get overwhelmed with too much or too strange information.
After all, learning a new language can be fun and extremely rewarding, allowing us to connect with others and with the world.
