I have passed through the education system in the United Kingdom and have attained a high level of proficiency in the subject of mathematics, driven by both my desire to excel in the subject but also due to an innate curiosity for mathematics as a whole. As a tutor, I strive to, first of all, understand my students and the issues they face in this subject and their drive to understand it. Based on this I formulate a plan of action and I will break down their problems into basic building blocks to master. Once I have given them a basic understanding of these 'building blocks', I will lead them through a series of examples that use these blocks while explaining each step of the process along the way, once they are satisfied with their understanding I will give them some practice questions to work on to reinforce this. If they encounter any problems then I will guide them through the problem, smoothing out any areas in which they are tripping up and making sure that they completely understand the process. I may also give them pointers as to what they should do (outside of the session) to improve their general understanding and proficiency in the subject matter through the practice of similar, and harder questions. It is true when they say practice makes perfect. Overall, this process that I will lead them through will deepen their understanding and hopefully their appreciation of the beautiful and complex field that is mathematics.
