In my lessons, I prioritise creating a supportive, engaging, and interactive environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions and explore mathematical concepts without fear of making mistakes. Each lesson is structured to build understanding step by step, ensuring that students not only learn how to solve problems but also understand the underlying principles.
In my few months as a private tutor, I’ve had the opportunity to work with students across a range of levels and abilities—from those needing extra support in foundational math to those preparing for higher-level exams. My experience has taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and clear communication, and I’m always looking for new ways to make each lesson more effective and enjoyable for my students.
Lesson Format:
Assessment and Goal Setting: At the beginning of our sessions, I take the time to understand where the student is in their learning journey and discuss their goals—whether it's improving grades, preparing for an exam, or mastering a specific topic. This helps me customise the lesson plan according to their needs.
Concept Explanation: I begin each lesson by introducing the topic in a clear, straightforward manner, often using visual aids, examples, and analogies to make abstract concepts more relatable and understandable.
Guided Practice: Once the concept is explained, I guide students through several practice problems, offering step-by-step instructions and highlighting key strategies. During this phase, I encourage active participation and problem-solving, ensuring that students feel confident applying what they've learned.
Independent Practice: To reinforce the lesson, I assign practice problems for the student to work on independently. I provide constructive feedback on their performance, addressing any mistakes and clarifying any remaining doubts.
Review and Reflection: At the end of the session, we review the material covered, answer any remaining questions, and discuss strategies for continued practice and improvement.
