I like to first go over with the student and sometimes the parent what the student already knows, what they want to study in our sessions and what is hardest for them. I also ask what form of learning they find the most useful for them, for example practice papers, flashcards, going over homework, me setting them my own questions etc.

I like to first go over with the student and sometimes the parent what the student already knows, what they want to study in our sessions and what is hardest for them. I also ask what form of learning they find the most useful for them, for example practice papers, flashcards, going over homework, me setting them my own questions etc.
One the students and/or parent has told me what they want to be doing I will plan my lessons around their preferences, finding resources online that sort their needs or making up my own resources on word or power point like quizzes or small questions or practice answers if they are older and practicing for gcse or alevels.
When finding resources I use legitimate websites such as BBC or for older students exam board websites to get practice papers or simply see what they’re doing and create lessons around this.
To keep the student concentrated and focused and have a feeling of reward when they’re working I often give them a small break in the middle of the hour to give themselves a few minutes to catch up and applaud themselves for their hard work.
I have taught various ages and levels of learning as well as students with learning difficulties where concentration or understanding can be difficult so I have had to adapt. I have found giving a break in the middle of the lesson to greatly help a student learn as it gives them time to breathe and relax and focus. This is something my own teachers did which was found very useful by myself and others.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have and adapt my lessons around and if there is an emergency change the lesson quickly or try to do a different time if needed.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me.
