The approach I use allows for flexibility while ensuring that each lesson is comprehensive and student-centred.
I start with a brief review, often through quick-fire questions or a short quiz establishing what the student does and does not know. Then, I introduce new topics linking them to what the student knows making more complex ideas accessible. I use a variety of teach aids for example, diagrams, real like examples and models. I have found this enhances comprehension and memory retention. New material is then dissected in guided practice where i go through practice questions with my students explaining exam technique and how to structure answers before giving them independent practice. This structured process helps to build confidence as students are progressively given more freedom and autonomy with how they illustrate their answers.
I don't really promote note taking in class. Material can be found online and in textbooks. Lessons should be used to concentrate fully on my teaching and absorbing my words. Lessons also serve as a valuable opportunity to ask questions.
Within my experience as a tutor, I have been fortunate enough to mentor dozens of students from different backgrounds and academic levels. I have refined my teaching skills over the years always putting enjoyment and academic excellence at the forefront of my work. I look forward to working with you!
