My methods of teaching adapt to depending on what type of learning is best for the student. I consult with parents regarding the student needs and the focus areas for the tutor sessions. Before any type of lesson, I find it best the student and I to have a 20 minuite meeting over a zoom call, or in person, to better understand the student's needs and what type of learning is best for them. Furthermore, it helps the child to build trust with their tutor.
I find 1 on 1 teaching is the most efficient as it builds a form of trust. For growing children, I make a balance between teaching and building their independence. I would ensure whomever I tutor has a proper understanding of the subject by giving them questions they would know but also questions to challenge them. I find this method, especially for growing children, is extremely effective as it builds their confidence in the subject as well as engaging their minds with unseen questions, allowing them to both apply things I teach on top of their own developing problem solving skills.
I use examples in lessons which would help in the specific focus areas which the student struggles in. I find visual aids, especially for younger children, help engage their cognitive minds and effectively helps them study. At the end of lessons, I would give them the chance to try on their own with self-made questions and some work books. No matter the progress, I always assign 3 questions for them to try on their own or with the parents as it helps me track their progress and for the student to feel more confident and comfortable with the subject.
