Currently working for AQA marking English as a Second Language (International): Reading - GCSE (International), I am sure that this would be a real asset to the role. I marked in 2023 and 2022 (initial agreed marking was postponed by Covid-19 in 2021). Previously, I have also moderated Music GCSE and written Functional Skills Materials for OCR.
Most recently I worked as a supply teacher with Focus Education, doing so since December 2022. I visited different schools in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire and covered many different subjects at KS3 and KS4. The role required me to be enthusiastic, positive, and adaptable as I worked with many different groups of young people in different settings. It also asked me to be punctual, well presented, efficient and demonstrating the ability to speak to students. staff and parents within the school community politely and respectfully.
Prior to this, I worked with Mencap as a job coach, which lead me to encourage and mentor young people with special needs to gain skills required for a job and gain work experience. During the lockdown period, I worked as a private tutor of English and Maths.
From September 2017 to August 2018, I worked for the Virtual School as a teacher of LAC. I was based at the Cedars PRU but worked in a variety of locations including mainstream schools and children’s homes throughout Staffordshire. I worked to engage with young people at some of the most difficult times of their lives, adapting tasks and projects to both meet the needs of the students and maintain engagement and enthusiasm. My work with young people required me to learn many new skills and to be flexible in different situations, which I consider to be a strong transferrable skill.
In September 2013, I took up the post of Director of Music at St Joseph’s College. Prior to this appointment, I worked at Kingsmead School, Enfield fulfilling several roles including Deputy Head of Music, Deputy Head of Year and Learning Director of Music. I tutored form groups and acted as Head of Year thoroughly enjoying the experience of working with a diverse group of students at different stages of their educational career as well as integrating with the school community.
At St Joseph’s, I worked with a team of 9 colleagues as well as successfully mentoring several student teachers. I worked extensively with the RE and Drama teams and therefore have a great deal of experience in managing teams and working with colleagues from other departments. I also worked with colleagues in neighbouring schools through the SASCAL network, the Music Hub and through attending local events. My experience here represents my ability to work well as part of a team.
We need to apply our strongest skills and strongest values in the scope of any role perhaps especially in a field which means so very much to so very many. I would love the opportunity to fulfil this role, bringing experience, enthusiasm, organisation, teamwork, honesty, and humour. I am looking forward to a new challenge and feel that this could be just that. I hope that you will consider me for tuition.
