As a classroom practitioner, I have worked in all primary phases and have planned and delivered excellent lessons in all areas of the curriculum. As a result of this varied experience, I have secured strong subject knowledge, an efficient and pacey style of delivery and I appreciate the value of quality modelling and questioning in lessons. Further to this, I give quality feedback both verbally and in written marking. Due to this practice, the children in my care made very good progress and became confident learners.
In my varying roles in classroom practice and leadership, I have developed a confident yet approachable style when working with children, young people or dealing with parents and other stakeholders. I was able to foster positive and trusting working relationships with the children because of my calm, patient and supportive manner. When planning lessons or explaining concepts to the children, I would consider the needs of the children and plan tasks that would make meaningful progress from various starting points- I would use adaptive teaching approaches and resources to support the children. I would always ensure the children appreciated the lesson objectives and what success criteria was needed to meet their targets. Being efficient, effective and well-organised when preparing for lessons and using skilful questioning and clear explanations will enable me to support learners in this role.
When leading a class, small group intervention or one to one tutoring, I always ensure my expectations for the lesson are clear. In an appropriate manner, I ensure the children are aware of the boundaries and expectations of the lesson. I use suitable praise and reward which encourages greater engagement and helps to build a positive and productive working environment. This approach would enable me to lead effective lessons making a good impact on the children’s development.
