My experiences tutoring have showed me that immersing the student in conversation is one of the best ways to get their language developing faster than you can imagine! As such I will usually spend the first few session focusing on vocabulary and basic grammar structures to get a level of conversation flowing. From here we will work with articles and short pieces of writing (length and difficulty of which will be selected based on the child), using them as a basis and vocabulary bank to help your child converse, and give them an opportunity to use and see what they are learning in real world french. I like to supplement this with games themed around the article also, keeping the session light and fun, building a detailed understanding of the topic. This is especially beneficial for A level students who are expected to have an understanding of cultural topics and and news for their exams.
