Individualised learning is something I believe is essential to efficient and effective education and teaching. Each learner I encounter will be assessed to ascertain their unique starting points; looking at current knowledge of the topic/subject, previous experiences of education, as well as identifying any learning needs and any other aspects deemed significant to their learning pathway.
I am also a strong believer in the model of a 'learner-led' session/course. Although I may be the one to teaching new skills and knowledge, everybody already has a fairly solid understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses. This being considered, I strongly encourage my learners to take an active role in their learning journey. By using this two-pronged approach, we can work together to maximise proficiency and progress.
My professional background in education started in 2016, where I became a teaching assistant. I very quickly progressed onto being a cover supervisor (in-house supply teacher), and then moved into college education delivering GCSE maths lessons to students at an agricultural college. Following on from this, I spent almost 4 years working in prison education, helping offenders to gain qualifications in order to find meaningful employment on release. Finally, I spent most of 2022 travelling around Thailand, working in numerous schools teaching English as a foreign language.
As you can hopefully see, I have a huge passion for teaching, and couldn't imagine a better vocation. In addition, I would hope that my experiences in less mainstream teaching roles will reassure you that I am never phased when it comes to new challenges!
