Innovative education is the motto!
I am an Ancient Historian PhD candidate proposing a different scholarly angle on how and why hybridity and third space concepts can be important for cultural interactions and cities in Antiquity, from an archaeological and art historical standpoints, without pining traces of modern colonialism.
My specialty includes literature interpretation with the support of archaeology and art history data analysis. I like crafting and proposing new approaches around this niche to tackle current problems affecting the past through the application of research papers and articles. My peers would describe me as a jack-of-all-trades, dynamic and pragmatic individual who has a calm and consistent character in making decisions and developing strategies.
Whilst working part-time at Nando's flipping chicken for the perfect crisscross and serving fantastic peri-salted chips for hungrier customers to pay my PhD tuition fees, I work as a teaching assistant at Swansea University, and as a learning support assistant intern in History of Art, about the art of portraits and portraiture, through the teaching company called The Brilliant Club. I also have a podcast called PhD Lounge where I talk about PhD studies and interview PhD students. Through PhD Lounge, Swansea University awarded the prize of outstanding contribution to the PGR experience.
Specific fields of Interest include Ancient Archaeology, Ancient Art History and Museology that allow me to seek opportunities to develop and promote communication, interpersonal and teaching skills that benefit education through reinvention and innovation.
Why teaching? After my first experience as a guide tour for primary school pupils, I believe that teaching is my vocation. Holding a graduation in Cultural heritage and archeology and a Masters in Ancient History and Classical Culture, and having been travelling across different western European countries mostly in working and educational contexts, I desire to share my knowledge and socio-cultural experience in a way that students will instantly understand: PowerPoint slides depicting images, videos, games and less but impactful keywords that help them to increase their interest in obtaining more knowledge and love for Art History.
The dynamics of the lessons are fully interactive and personalised to help the students understand what I want to share across each art genre taught in Art History whether they are an A level or an undergraduate, and any doubts or concerns students may have, I am readily and happily to help them to succeed!
I hope I will be your Art History tutor and thank you for accepting me! Yours truly, Luis Maia de Freitas
