As I have just graduated my master's degree, I am still very familiar with being the student, as that is what I have been for most of my life now. I have had some boring and unhelpful teachers throughout my educational career, and I have had some inspiring and motivated teachers that I am still grateful for today. Now I'm not saying that the boring teachers weren't experts, I just didn't click with them. This is the thing, sometimes that happens, and I feel that the teachers who asked me how I liked to learn and helped me figure out what that was, were the ones that I clicked with the most. I believe in a little bit of discipline because let's face it, some morning's we really don't want to do it, but on top that, the sessions will be led by you; if you like to listen to different ways of learning, for example, rapping, singing or correlating answers with notes in a song, then that's what we'll do. If you like catching the correct ball in a net to a previously asked question, then that's what we'll do. If you absolutely love colours, stationary and making mind-maps, then snap! that's what we'll do. Every student learns in their own way, we should know, we've all been one.
I found that my most trusted and influential teachers took into account the stresses I felt around exam season and how overwhelming it can get. I help teach coping mechanisms intertwined with revision techniques to keep you calm while you do your thing. Being able to remain calm and keep that anxiety at bay during exams is one of the main things that can help you remember what you have learnt. I went from being the over-panicky student having to be told to sit down by a trusted teacher, for them to really get in my head and show me there's nothing to be afraid of, and to trust in my abilities- safe to say that was the first step to learning how to be my own best friend when it came to studying, rather than my own worst enemy.
