If you want to experience really high quality pronunciation (RP, received pronunciation), high level academic understanding of grammar, syntax, technical language, creative and innovative questions from material relevant to your professional or main interest area, then I can help you.

I suggest we meet for two one our sessions online per week over a period of at least three months, with assessments after two weeks, six weeks and ten weeks and a review after twelve weeks. These review sessions last around 20-30 minutes and are included in the total cost, as are the initial two or three sessions to establish that we can work together, and to create a schedule.

We work SMART: specific goals, measurable through agreed assessment criteria, achievable, realistic, and over a period of agreed meetings.

A sample Session One with Lucy: 10 m: Summarise three days’ worth of material: what did you read? 10m: What is the meaning of the words you found difficult? 5m: Practise the pronunciation of the words you struggled with. 15m: Discuss the content of the material as though you are explaining it to a colleague. 15m: Feedback on written sentences, which I can send you beforehand.

Session Two with Lucy: 10m: Summarise your current research and work: what are the outstanding questions? What is the meaning of the words you found difficult? 5m: Practise the pronunciation of the words you struggled with. 15m: Discuss the content of the material as though you are explaining it to a colleague. 15m: Feedback on written sentences, which I can send you beforehand.

I'm happy to engage particularly with those engaged in academic and research work, but also with professionals in all fields, and with mature, sensible students of any age who are willing to undertake study and see results. I have a PhD in Philosophy, so obviously the Humanities are a prime focus for me, but I'm also interested in Science, Medicine, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Society, Politics, Culture and the Arts. I trained as an EFL teacher in 1989, and worked in Hungary, Sudan, Indonesia and Kenya as well as in the UK. I have also taught adults returning to education.
