My students will be shown the approach of conversational learning. There will also be reading and writing tests, however speaking is where I find most schools fail, and when students are faced with an actual conversation in the foreign language, it becomes difficult to understand, understandably. I believe conversation is vital if one truly wants to begin the endeavour of becoming competent in understanding Spanish.
Alongside this, I will use Spanish culture as context for my students learning to expand their knowledge and help them understand Spains long and complex history. So, alongside learning verbs and tenses, they will be studying Francos Dictatorship in World War Two or the controversy of Frida Kahlos’ paintings in Mexico, or the techniques that Guillermo del Toro used in his film “El laberinto Del Fauno” (Pans Labrynth), or the pain in which Federico Garcia Lorcas manages to display through his play ‘La Casa De Bernada Alba’.
It is my endeavour to entertain my students so as to keep them interested and passionate about the language they are learning, therefore it is their choice as to which Spanish topic they would like to discuss. I shall also keep sure I myself stay up to date with how the student is progressing and as soon as I see development, we can discuss new, interesting topics of their choice, not only with the student but with the parents/carers as well.
I hope my passion for teaching alongside the country and its culture is passed on to the students I am fortunate enough to teach.
