I aim to support your learning in a flexible manner by letting the student guide me on what would be most helpful.
I am open to online or in-person lessons depending on practical implications. I believe that each can offer fantastic learning experience and that each has their own advantages.
My studies and professional experiences have primarily focused on French, British and other European art and design from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. However, I have the requisite understanding of the art historical canon from earlier times and from across the globe. My specialisms have included French Modernism across all media, women artists and their place in the canon, early French photography, documentary photography, contemporary photography, Surrealism, the self in art, the experience of architecture, fashion and fashion media leading up to and during the twentieth century, the history of exhibitions and museums, art writing and digital art.
Adapting to different learning styles is very important to me, so I will use the teaching methods most appropriate to each individual student in order to best convey the material.
As the subjects that I specialise in are largely visual in nature, the use of visual materials will always be required. These could be shared in person in printed format if available or digitally on a computer, or in the case of online lessons, I have previously used simple presentations or shared links using the chat function.
Being dyslexic myself and understanding the added difficulties this can cause, I am open to teaching with dyslexia in mind and adapting lessons accordingly.
