I’m an enthusiastic and approachable mathematics tutor with a passion for teaching and over five years of experience. Having recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a mathematics degree, I know the subject at A-level, GCSE and primary school level upto a high standard.
My lessons are fun yet thoughtfully planned out activities, aimed to develop students’ mathematical skills whilst building their confidence in order to give them the best preparation for lessons in school and ability to achieve their best in examinations.
I’ve previously tutored all ages and ability levels, ranging from helping secondary school students adjust to their pre-GCSE work and begin exam preparation, to GCSE resit practice for 16 to 18 year olds, to assisting university applicants in preparing for their admission tests and Oxbridge interviews.
My teaching approach is to firstly consult with student or parent to identify any key topics or areas of difficulty that the student may have, and then go through the theory around this with the student to ensure that they understand the reasons behind techniques that are used for solving these problems. From here, we’ll go through previous exam questions, firstly with a lot of assistance from me, with the key steps and thinking outlined. I’ll then gradually encourage the student to assist with solving the next few problems, until they’re able to confidently solve multiple questions on their own.
In my previous experience as a tutor, I consulted with parents both before and after each session and adapted the lessons wherever necessary, for example covering homework material instead of exam questions if it was preferred for that session.
I worked for 3 months on a summer school with the University of Oxford, running lectures, leading classes, and setting and marking work for future applicants, so I also have experience helping students who want to access more challenging material or are looking for additional university application preparation.
I look forward to helping you or your child achieve their learning goals!
