As I grew up speaking both english and french, I can offer speaking and listening classes. I have the capacity to teach you cultural equivalencies, as well as natural conversational skills, you would typically have with a french speaking person. When tutoring english in France, my lessons where media based. In my lesson I would show a video, a piece of writing, a painting , a song etc... with questions I have prepared that you would have to answer. Discussing the piece of media, would allow for you to learn about the french-speaking world's culture as well as learn vocabulary. In the questions would also be writing and speaking exercises, in relationship with the theme of the media piece. For instance, I would show you a video on different neighborhoods in Paris, and one the exercises for example, would be to describe a walk you would take through the arrondissement with the help of pictures that I would have selected. I would also show you famous extracts of movies and tv shows that have an important place in french culture, and walk you through the idioms, and unwritten speaking rules that are not taught in academic settings. Lastly we would, depending on how much you would like to, do translating exercise, based on texts, french and english that I would select. I have only thought young children ( under the age of 10), but I am eager to teach older students, but do to the fact that my mother did not speak french in France, i am used to teaching and translating for her ( since i was roughly seven years old). I am patient, and passionate about sharing my language and culture.
