I completed my PhD under the supervision of Dr. Alberto Kornblihtt and co-direction of Dr. Adrian Krainer, at the University of Buenos Aires and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where I developed a new combination therapy to treat Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a genetic disease that damages motor neurons. The work resulted in a patent, reached the cover of the prestigious journal Cell, and the recognition of the Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Phil Sharp. (Marasco et al. 2022, Cell).
In addition to my research experience, I have been actively involved in teaching and mentoring students at different levels of education, with more than six years of experience as a teaching assistant at the University of Buenos Aires and one year as a demonstrator at the University of Oxford.
As someone who has deeply benefited from having generous mentors, I consider it vitally important to care for students, to support them, to encourage them, and to understand them. Often science and research, more broadly, can be desolate and very challenging, which is why I always seek to support young and curious minds!
