My lesson style is completely dependent on the age and the goals of the students. When teaching younger students, I aim to focus on dynamic learning and fun, as I find this motivated students much more than learning by rote. This is due to the fact that by getting students to enjoy the subject and our lessons is the key to improvement in their language ability. I believe that I am able to achieve a good relationship with my students, due to the fact that I am quite young (19), as well as also being a student in University. I believe this creates a more relaxed environment, which I think is paramount for children struggling to learn in more traditional classroom situations, as it portrays learning in a different manner.
I also place a large emphasis on oral ability, as I believe this to be the most rewarding part of a language by far, as it unlocks the ability to interact with French speakers. Usually, I try to spend a large chunk of the lesson reserved for speaking practice, as I have found that when a students ability to speak and understand improves, they are much more eager to learn.
When focusing more on exam preparation, specifically GCSES, my lesson style does become more traditional, as exam preparation does not vary too much. I previously have tutored family friends in GCSE french, as I passed the exam when I was younger, thus enabling me to understand how the subject is taught and graded. I have found that my approach to teaching GCSE to be successful, having tutored 4 kids, with none of them getting lower than an 8. I find my exam preparation lessons to be less helpful in actively teaching french, as there is much more of a focus on memorisation rather than true understanding and application of the language. However, if you are looking for GCSE help, I feel that I can help well in regards to this.
