My lessons are designed to cover the fundamentals of music in order to help students understand the basic aspects in a more accessible manner. I aim to feature a variety of activities that require practical engagement to give students greater clarity in what can be a very challenging subject. These activities range from worksheets (that intend to focus on specific topics and principles) to aural and practical tasks (which can be performed with online websites or with a piano, considering I’m at a grade 8 level).
The percentage of students continuing musical education into both GCSE and A Levels is shockingly low - and I hope to build a longstanding passion for music amongst all my students. I’m able to cover all material necessary, leading up to GCSE and my goal is to approach lessons in a more captivating way than most professional teachers, as teaching a whole class can create unnecessary confusion for individual pupils.
Other techniques of mine include quizzes, recap sessions and a unique approach called Reverse Lessons, in which I encourage students to create a presentation for me once a subject is finalized. This gives them a chance to relay the information they’ve learnt back to me in order to perfect their own understanding.
With younger pupils, I stick more to textbooks for lesson plans, as they provide quick and fun ways to grasp the basics with ease. After this is accomplished, I take a more personal angle to try and ensure all students develop a positive connection with the subject.
Overall, I believe that my teaching has proven to influence pupils to become more engaged in music and prompted long-term fascination to last them into their GCSEs and beyond.
Thank you for considering me :)
