The atmosphere of our lessons will be relaxed but also focused on the subject at hand, to ensure that the threat of stress and anxiety does not interfere with learning but also to reassert a sense of purpose towards our sessions.
Our first session will be an introductory lesson to understand the contexts of your study, what works for you and what doesn't, any methods that you have used before and developing a sense of familiarity for me to understand your academic performa. Thus, it will be the grounding for the development of a tutoring framework tailored to your academic preferences to produce the best results possible.
The following lessons with then include the following skills for development:
- Structuring
- Developing Arguments
- Writing Formatting
- Research Methods
- Finding Research Materials
- Critical Thinking Skills
- Memory Methods
- Essay Writing Skills
- Development of Prose (Optional) (I have done English Literature at A Level in which I got an A grade, it had helped to give my essay writing a sense of clarity)
My historical knowledge is very well grounded in the Crusades, the Tudors, Tsarist Russia and Communist Russia from WW1, WW2, and the Cold War. Regardless of the area of historical study however, my ability to tutor you in any area is not hindered by my previous studies of other areas.
Nevertheless, I am highly flexible with the demands of any pupil who wishes to receive specific tutoring on a certain area that they feel they need to improve.
As a first-year student myself, it was quite confusing and challenging coming from a completely different environment to a new one, and I have a moral inclination to make it easier for the next generation of students that arrive here at UCL. I want to engage them with a sense of belonging to the UCL community, as well as a smooth transition from their previous academic life to their new one. Using my experiences as a first year myself, I will be able to answer questions and relate to the new students on the basis that I too was in their position.
Through the gained experiences, my ability to mentor has been established within myself through my past experiences of being an Army Cadet, in which I had led and mentored many younger cadets myself when I had reached the ages of 16-18. Despite this being outside of the world of academia, my ability to interact and produce positive outcomes through my mentoring had only not only proven successful, but also rewarding, as I witnessed the younger cadets develop their experience in the cadets through sharing my own past experiences and knowledge that I had gained when I too was a young cadet like themselves.
Therefore, I have the mental ability to understand the student's point of view as I too would have been there. That experience benefits me but would serve its purpose better towards the next generation of students that arrive here. I want them to gain the best experience and university life possible here at UCL, so that they perform at their best academically while also sustaining a healthy state of mind.
