I strongly believe that Economics is a beautiful science that can challenge the mind and the soul of its learners, and that would change their lives. However, I will never say to my students that Economics is an easy subject, that can be learned overnight, or that there is a magic tool that can help them understand its principles straight away. I also believe that Economics it’s an intellectually rewarding subject that will bring great rewards with a lot of practice.
I am teaching my lessons in a relaxed way, encouraging in a Socratic way the discovery of knowledge, by asking lots of questions, and once the economic principles are learned I am stimulating the long-term memory by giving practical examples or by teaching the students how to use logical thinking to help remembering. Short-term memory is stimulated by lots of practice on short questions, and chains of reasoning. Lovely and captivating slices of economic literature are also used at the right place to stimulate curiosity, emulate a smile, enhance critical thinking, and make a counterpoint more interesting. Because I have experience as an examiner, I can guide efficiently towards the optimal answer structure of longer questions, so top marks can be achieved, and I am marking in a non-judgmental, encouraging, and positive style.
So, to make the long story short, I expect my students to ask questions, and to be curious. In reverse, I will ask lots of questions and give tests/ quizzes in every lesson, homework with extra reading, revision chars, flashcards making, essay writing, and so on, all adapted to the needs of the student and the specificity of the topic. I would like to believe that I am a good teacher who can inspire her students with a love for the subject and boost confidence for independent learning and successful exam preparation.
