I have 8 years of teaching experience. I studied Primary Education (BA Hons) at university where I received a first class honours degree and was awarded ‘outstanding’ for my teaching practise. I strive myself on being a passionate teacher who has high expectations for all learners. I thrive on finding the best possible way an individual child can learn and ensuring children are supported and challenged appropriately. Currently, I teach in Year 2, which I also did last year and managed to achieve fantastic KS1 SATS results. I also have taught in KS2, teaching in Year 4, 5 and 6. I have also had experience teaching in Year 1 and reception.
I think learning should be fun and engaging for pupils and tutoring is an excellent way in aiding children to become more confident, self-motivated learners.
I have had many years of experience tutoring a range of ages and of varied ability. I tailor each session to the individual and use assessments to identify areas to develop. Then week on week, I adapt sessions to meet the needs of the child to ensure progress is being made and to consolidate new learning or even to have a new focus. For maths, I like to make learning relatable. I often use a CPA approach to new learning and I like to ensure a mix of fluency, reasoning and problem solving is being taught. For reading, I believe it is important to be a fluent reader using phonics to segment words. I also believe that reading compression skills are important to develop from a young age. Therefore, understanding authors choice, making inferences, explaining and retrieving information are the 4 skills I focus on. For writing, it is essential for children to be exposed to high quality writing in order to understand how to use techniques effectively in their own work. Looking at grammatical elements and ambitious vocabulary to enhance writing and ensuring children can write for a range of purposes is something which is crucial.
