It's important to utilize different teaching methods, no matter the topic, and even more important to take the time to understand someone's learning style and needs before developing their individual lessons. With Accounting, repetition is the best way to learn and retain the basic foundations of bookkeeping and GAAP, but with Algebra, I find that introducing real-life scenarios where one would actually use equations often inspires. Laying a foundation of knowledge, and then practicing that knowledge every day, that's how most people retain the important stuff and raise their grades! I also think it's important for students of any age to get comfortable with accounting and bookkeeping software that would take their resume up a notch. I employ multiple outlets when preparing lessons- anything from Ted talks to online research projects to simulation to independent study. I am always available for my clients, and can easy adjust lessons based ok feedback and results as well. Not everyone knows their learning style. Whether you're a passionate entrepreneur, a junior in college heading towards a CPA someday, or a bummed 8th grader very angry at their mom for ruining their Thursday nights, I guarantee we can be successful working together! I have a Masters Degree in Business Administration combined with over 20 years of Business Management and Accounting experience, and over 5 years of experience teaching middle school/high school math and college level Financial Accounting.
