With my lessons I like to spend the beginning portion going over the learning material the lesson is focused on so we can discuss in detail which areas are being struggled with. We can then go through some example questions together before giving a couple of questions to attempt solo. When completed we can analyse the answers and discuss any mistakes made. I have found this is the most successful way of teaching by doing work experience in schools and shadowing maths teachers. However when in such a big group it is harder to piece apart exactly what each student needs to focus on. By working one on one I get the chance to identify the weak points of the individial making it easier for me to help them succeed.
