I am currently studying 'Communication and Counselling Studies' at Ulster University, where I have learnt many behavioural skills that I can implement into my tutoring. I understand the importance of making sure that the student feels comfortable throughout the sessions, and that their learning comes first. Therefore, I would teach at a steady pace where there is a mutual understanding on the subject being taught, as well as a safe space to ask questions or go over a point more than once.
My recent jobs in customer service and waitressing has taught me the importance of patience and kindness,. Therefore, I would encourage a kind and welcoming relationship with my students where they feel confident speaking to me and addressing their thoughts and feelings. I would create presentations before sessions so that I have my information displayed in an easy to understand manner, where I am prepared and on time.
At the end of my sessions I would ask the student a question regarding what was taught in the session to ensure that they have a deeper understanding of what they are learning. If they are to struggle with the question, I will greet them with a caring approach in which I would go over the same topic again, in a way that makes clearer sense to them. I would learn from the students themselves and learn to make presentations and powerpoints suited to their personal learning styles so that they get the most fulfillment out of these sessions as possible.
