I have a 1:1 degree in Creative Writing and I am passionate about English Language, literature, reading and writing.

I have worked as an Academic Mentor on a 1-1 basis with students struggling in their studies or seeking extra support with their learning. As a mentor, I adopted a positive attitude and promoted self-belief in my mentees. I also encouraged them to use their initiative and gently steered them in the right direction when required. I helped with practicalities like signposting to mental health support, academic referencing, helping them with IT support and showing them how to access helpful, commended online educational materials. I worked with them on referencing and proofreading, providing tips, tricks and insight. I made a point to encourage self- sufficiency and did not just show my mentees resources and do the work for them; I talked them through it and ensured they could access these resources and do the work in their time away from our sessions. Mentoring was an enriching experience, and I received positive feedback from my mentees coupled with the confirmation that I had enriched their studies and made a positive impact on their lives.

I have completed a 6-month work placement with Artshape, a charity that helps individuals access creative arts. While working at Artshape, I helped with the online writing courses, ‘The World is Your Oyster’ and ‘Fairy Tales and Folk Tales’, creating a friendly, engaging atmosphere for participants to share work. As well as giving constructive criticism and positive feedback to the participants, I did the tasks and activities alongside them to help them to the best of my ability when they were struggling. I enjoyed working in the arts and creativity sectors and the health and wellbeing sectors, as it was rewarding and interesting. Course leaders praised my encouragement to the participants and engagement with the course.
