I've always been quite shy and intimidated by learning a new language or by expanding my knowledge in the ones I know, but all it took is one good teacher. Just one person to believe that I could do it gave me the confidence I needed, and though I'm not at their level I hope I can do somewhat the same for other students who struggle as I did.
I try to have an engaging class by making sure it's not just for an hour (or hours!) of me talking. I make sure each lesson folds into the next one so that there's a fluid learning curve and although, yes, I assign some homework they are not compulsory as the beginning of each class will start with said exescises. I want to give each student the opportunity to look at the exercises ahead of time if they wish to do some additional learning or simply want to get ready for the next class. I believe the use of visuals ej powerpoints is helpful for notetakers and those who struggle doing so, at the end of each lesson the powerpoint I used will be available for everyone.
I will allocate time in the class to just have a chat, make use of the new information learned and put it into practice. As the saying goes, if you don't use it you lose it and oftentime when I was in school, if I didn't immedietly use/talk about what I just learned it was gone within the next hour. I hope I can help whether it's with exams, classes or personal learning.
