A typical online lesson will include a fun Maths activity or game (to put a student at ease), teaching of a topic, using a whiteboard tool, helping a student to answer practice questions and past exam paper question practice. I will always ask a student what they want to focus on and which topics they would like particular help with and I will establish through baseline testing, what level the student is at. When tutoring GCSE students for example, I will use numerous past papers and go through questions step by step, with students. I also have teaching and learning materials, which have divided GCSE questions by topic, which is particularly useful to use for many students in the lead up to their exams. Whilst I will talk through a topic and show step by step, how to solve a question, I will always encourage a student to attempt questions themselves, as even if they go wrong, this can be useful in helping explain particular mathematical topics.
