I’d try and adapt who I teach English to the way the student/their parents have found to be the most successful way, I believe relating the text and analysis of the text to be one task is the best way and starting to go through the text line by line with a Highlighter then allowing the student to practice this. If a younger student was to want my help and support I’d try and involve a game where possible such as card snap games eg. “A declarative sentence” and then an example on another card. If the student needs to go back over the basics to be able to move forwards that’s absolutely fine we can start with learning the meaning of a verb, silent letters, and they’re, their and there. I’d do this by explaining what each of these mean then asking the student to see if they can think of any examples of these. Then I’d make and send the student a piece of text that has used there, their and they’re wrong and seeing weather or not they can identify where the mistakes have been made. I studied English throughout school and achieved a grade 7 (A) at school and believe I can help others who may need extra help which is sometimes difficult to have within a large classroom with only one teacher available in the room. I think the easiest way to be good at a subject is small steps to develop confidence within that subject.
