I have been teaching Latin and Classical Civilization to students at preparatory and secondary schools since 2012. During this time, I have also tutored students for Common Entrance Levels 1, 2 and 3, as well as scholarship examinations for Eton and Harrow. In 2019, following a year of travelling abroad, I returned to the UK to take up the role of Head of EAL at Kingswood School in Bath. I currently work with students from all over the world to guide them through professional qualifications and thus improve their English language proficiency. Students tend to come from Hong Kong, Japan and South East Asia, although this is not an exhaustive list. In my sessions I help the students to access the curriculum here at Kingswood School by scaffolding writing and reading tasks and focusing on broadening their vocabulary. There is a strong emphasis on speaking in my classes as I think that this is normally the skill that students want to improve the most, although we also spend time improving grammar. In years 7-9, we focus on understanding literary texts in English as well as how to write analytically and creatively. In years 10-11, the focus is the First Language GCSE which students need to obtain to progress to the sixth-form here. In years 12-13, classes are focused on IELTS as students need this qualification to study on undergraduate courses at British universities. I use Quizlet to build vocabulary and MS Forms and MS Teams for reading and writing assignments.
