I used to teach more on conversational strategy... At first, I would introduce myself and ask my student afterwards to get to know better and for him/her to feel comfortable. Then I would introduce some nursery songs for us to sing together to keep my student interested before we start a lesson. Lessons will depend on the age but basically more on alphabets, numbers, composing sentences that would express theit thoughts. At the end of the lesson, there will be a fun quiz or game to determine wheter the lesson was understood.
