Lewis Knight

I’m Lewis, a recent History graduate from the University of Oxford. I would love to work as a History tutor for Findtutors due to my great passion for academia and mentoring. Having studied History as part of the International Baccalaureate and at the level of an intensive university degree, I have an extensive grounding in the subject and knowledge of a wide variety of modules and periods. I am also very adaptable and would be willing to teach at any educational level.

As well as having a deep grounding in the subject, I also have experience of tutoring both individual students and groups of them. I gained this experience through my undertaking of an internship at tutoring company, Oxford and Cambridge Tutors. By participating as a tutor in their annual summer school for prospective Oxbridge applicants, I was required to create and deliver a number of engaging lessons. To do this, I developed lesson plans to ensure my lessons were as comprehensive as possible and used PowerPoint slides to ensure my lessons were both informative and interesting. This tutoring experience therefore makes me confident in my abilities to effectively tutor students on behalf of Findtutors.

I believe tutoring should be centred on the learner and that adaptability is essential in order to best meet their specific needs and desires. When informally tutoring younger siblings and family friends, I tried to adopt a range of different techniques to adapt to those who learn in very different ways. This include those who learn better kinaesthetically, visually, and orally. Being flexible and student-centred is, I believe, the most effective way of communicating information and helping students to develop both intellectually and as people.
