After assessing at what level you are at, I like to work alongside my students by giving them projects to complete, catered to what type of drawing they would like to learn, realistic, cartoon, abstract. I like to break things down in to small steps and build up the project piece by piece.
For example, Character design: We would focus on the basics of human anatomy, gesture drawing and studying models. Next we can move on to style, teaching you how to lean into your own style and bring out what makes your work unique. After that we move on to things like costume, how to use references in your work and taking inspiration from life and other artists. I enjoy getting my students to experiment with all types of media after getting the basics of drawing down using pencils and pens. After we have developed a good knowledge of drawing characters we can move on to drawing them in different situations and scenarios, exploring storytelling and emotions.
I have been drawing since I can remember and I firmly believe It's a skillset anyone can learn, no matter what age. Progress in drawing can come along very quickly with daily practice and pushing yourself to draw things you are not use to drawing. Being a professional illustrator Ive seen my work improve and grow constantly the more I have drawn.
I hope to help all my students grow, improve and get work professionally if that is something they want to do.
