I always feel that while learning a subject there should always be a practical use for the knowledge learned, so I always incorporate a "real-world" application; which strengthens the memory and flexibility of knowledge. An example of this is by asking students to imagine they're a real detective working on an eye-witness testimony when memory is in question. How do popular theories of memory explain a witness' faulty testimony, for example.
