We will use a conversational, teamwork approach to the learning; identifying areas of weakness and areas of strength, in work that has been previously covered in school, and in the most recent work they are covering now. This will give a clear idea of areas we need to strengthen and bolster the understanding of any new content that is being taught at that moment.
In preparation for this, I would bring focused lessons and problems to the next class, in order to build each week on the student's understanding and confidence on the subject matter.
Additionally, and importantly, I would adapt the lessons to the exam board used (and level - being that early years, GCSE or A Level) and add exam style questions on each topic we cover during each class. This will help ready the student for any exam they may be preparing to sit in the best way, building their confidence and experience on the way the questions are asked and the way they are expected to be answered.
I have a wealth of experience in teaching, and most of all I enjoy it, and simply talking about these topics! From presenting in secondary schools in London for outreach about our solar cell work, and aiming to capture the imaginations of the next generation, to helping teach the undergraduate students in the university, who are constantly preparing for exam after exam - something I am more than used to doing, over the many years in education! My qualifications in teaching (AFHEA), and combined 3 years of teaching in higher education, are a measure of that.
