I am a dynamic and student-focused teacher with a wealth of experience. I have taught, lectured and tutored for over 25 years. As a history and politics professor, I provide detailed feedback and support to students who want to delve deeply into their work, and excel in their subject. As an experienced and expert editor, I also teach students how to write, and structure essays and dissertations. My background as an English language teacher has given me insight into English language teaching, and how to improve written work and oral skills for learners of English as a second and third language. I am approachable, enthusiastic, and welcome feedback from students, encouraging a dialogue in all of my teaching, and tutoring work. As a published author of non-fiction and fiction, I can also provide feedback on written work. Students often suffer from a lack of confidence, and are fearful of learning and question their own ability to approach a text, understand and synthesis what they have read, and summarised arguments while making their own opinion clear. These struggles confront learners young and old, and also writers at each stage of their professional life. Empathy with the battles students face to learn, and express themselves, is one of my strengths as a teacher and writer. From the start I encourage my students to debate, argue and discuss their readings and to understand that written work is a process of continual drafting and redrafting, but is an exciting journey of knowledge production.
