I have completed GCSE’s and A-levels recently so I am familiar with how they are assessed and how to teach to the spec.

Depending on what level the student is at, I start with the basics so that I can assess where the student’s strengths and weaknesses are. I then plan lessons in response to this, tailoring them to cover what that individual student needs to work on the most.

The format I will begin with will be as follows: powerpoint lesson (explaining terminology/key facts etc), I will then go through an example question & answer for the student to use as a guide, next, the student will answer a question independently and we will then analyse it together, looking at what they have done well and what they need to improve on and how they could do that.

After this, I will give the student another example question for them to write an answer for in their own time, using what they have learnt and the examples I have provided. I will check over these during the next session and give further feedback.

If after this the student is still struggling on something that we have covered, I will keep going back to it during future lessons until they understand.

I will also be going through ‘refresher quizes’ at the end of occasional lessons to make sure that they haven’t forgotten what we have already done.

That is the general format for my lessons, however, these could be changed if the student responds better to a different format/way of teaching.
