My outstanding teaching career has allowed me to develop my natural talent for teaching. My teaching experience has taught me how to break down and scaffold even the most complex scientific concepts, and I believe that using this approach—paired with several innovative unconventional strategies—I can allow students to gain an excellent understanding.
My teaching practice is based on several key concepts adapted from Rosenshine’s methodolgy: retrieval, knowledge activation, skill development, guided practice and adaptation using independent practice. Initially, I create a mini scheme of work using the most suitable methods tailored to the preferred curriculum, after which, I adapt this to the specific needs of the student based on their knowledge and grasp of the concepts. During the sessions I aid pupils to develop a deep understanding of the scientific concepts, and give them opportunities to review and analyse their knowledge. Pupils are given opportunities to review past material at the start of each session, this allows key concepts to be embedded into long term memory. Pupils will then apply and activate their past knowledge to the upcoming concepts which allows them to develop a ‘true’ understanding of the concepts. Students are guided through questions which allows them to see my thought process when approaching a question and allows us to address misconceptions. Pupils then have time to apply their learned concepts from the session during pupil led independent practice which allows them to build a deep and thorough understanding of scientific concepts. I achieve this using a combination of resources, including quizzes, animations, class tasks, worksheets, past exam questions, review activities and blooket activities.

Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use lessonspace online sessions since it has many tools and features for online learning, it allows pupils to interact and write directly onto the sheets to complete tasks, it’s a premium software that I pay for and is free to use for my students. It allows students to really engage with the content and interact with the lesson. All lessons are recorded and can be played back by the student. I am fully equipped with technology needed for teaching including digital writing pads which allow me to annotate and write directly onto lesson space.
