Hi! My name is Leah and I am a student studying English Literature and Film at the University of Southampton. I have done in-person tutoring during my A-Levels for GCSE students and I have found that being a student really helps when coming to teaching other people.
When it comes to teaching, I make extremely detailed PowerPoints (which i send to students) and talk through as i find it is important for people to have a visual way of recollecting what happens in our sessions.
For English literature, i have advanced knowledge on most of the classic books studied at GCSE and A-Level as well as a thorough method for teaching poetry. On top of this, memory plays a big part in English Literature exams so i work with students to help them come up with ways to remember essential concepts. The texts which i have studied are: - Romeo and Juliet - Frankenstein - Macbeth - A Christmas Carol - Hamlet - A Streetcar named Desire - Dracula - The Great Gatsby - The Glass Menagerie - The Picture of Dorian Gray - Beloved - Oliver Twist - Othello - Pride and Prejudice - Animal Farm
For history, I have tried and tested methods for revising key events and remembering dates (an essential part of history exams!) I intend to help students learn efficient revision methods as learning historical events by heart is a tricky challenge. I will supply timelines, PowerPoints and summary documents in order to give students the best chance at excelling. The topics i have thorough knowledge in are: - the black death - Medicine through time - Weimar and Nazi Germany - Spain and the New World - Britain - Russia - Civil Rights and Race Relations in the USA
In addition, I can also provide assistance in writing A-Level coursework for both History and English
For Media Studies, I have excellent knowledge on all the theorists needed for GCSE and A-Level as well as (you guessed it) PowerPoints which all contain extremely detailed analysis and context on the different provided texts. I also can help with analysis of unseen sources. Since the set texts for A-Level are constantly changing as the course requires for them to be up-to-date, they may not be the same once which I studied, however I conduct detailed research each year.
For Film Studies, again, hundreds of PowerPoints to assist with both teaching and learning. I studied the following texts at A-Level: - Vertigo and Do the Right Thing - Carol and Captain Fantastic - Trainspotting and This is England - Pan’s Labyrinth and City of God - Amy - Sunrise and Pulp Fiction
