I have an interest in all types of music; and there’s far more music I’ve not heard than I probably ever will! My approach is primarily live instrument performance based (although I do have a good amount of experience with synth and drum programming using DAW) but more specifically the bass guitar being my first instrument, of around 35 years
I’m still actively playing in bands and writing and learning locally in covers and original bands, as well as singing and playing solo with an acoustic guitar, where I am a relative new comer, when compared to my bass experience.
Being in bands from an early age has given me a very solid basis to teach from. Being able to apply your practice to the role of a bassist in a band is an advantage. The main thing is though, is to be able enjoy playing and creating.
There is a need to understand some music theory of course and this can be learnt and applied alongside or, if you like, through learning about song structures of the artists we listen to, as well as many we’ve never heard of. I believe music is music is music. So I like to keep an open mind or ear to all types of music.
I myself have benefited from keeping the basics at the forefront to gain a deeper understanding when practicing.
I am very interested in helping to build week on week at a students own pace, covering all the aspects of musicality. From physically playing, so technique, tonality, context, to fretboard knowledge, scales, chord construction/progressions, tonality, rhythm study, performance within a band context etc…
