As a History graduate, I have learned that fact memorisation is the easiest and most accessible side of the subject. The most important skill to work on as a future historian are your analytical skills, how to structure a persuasive argument, and essay/exam technique - all of which have a further reach than history, and all of which I focus on in my classes.
While content and exams may seem daunting, I will help you simplify and consolidate and retain information, to prepare you for your exams. With a simple essay structure, sound understanding of the difference between description and analysis, and an understanding of what your examiner is looking for, we can boost your child’s confidence (and hopefully their love) of history.
Having taught children in year 7, as well as GCSE and A-Level students, I have a have learned that every child’s needs are different. Whether they be a visual, audible, physical learner, or if they’ve decided that they hate history and have written it off as a useless subject as ‘it’s in the past’, I will bring the life and learning back to the subject!
At whatever level your child is at, the foundations of history and what makes a good historian remain the same, and when you have learned these principles, you can apply them to any period or question. Your child deserves a personal and engaging education, that goes beyond excelling in exams (although that is the first priority, threat not!) and I hope to be a part of that for them.
