Hello! My name is Laurie. I tutor students online from ages 5-18 to A-Level in the following subjects: English, History, Politics and Government and Economics.

Your first lesson will form an assessment of your goals as a student. What do you want to get out of tutoring? From this initial interaction I will develop a bespoke tutoring course over 10 weeks to provide you with efficient, focused and effective tutoring on your chosen topic.

Each lesson begins with a problem question to get the student thinking. We then move on to areas where the student is having issues and go in depth into areas where they are weakest. Finally we end each lesson with a quick 5 minute assessment of where the student is and their progress over the last week. If necessary, I will assign small tasks of homework to be completed for the next lesson which will be marked outside of tutoring time.

Having just graduated from Durham University with a 1st Class BA in History (Hons), I am very flexible in working hours. I am keen to start tutoring to hone my communication and teaching skills for future employment in journalism or teaching.

Having tutored younger students in school, I understand how challenging it can be to teach young children, especially in somewhat abstract topics such as English. Unlike sciences, teaching often subjective and abstract concepts such as making an argument convincing or creating clear writing style can be especially difficult. However, from experience such issues only make teaching successes more rewarding. As the eldest of four siblings, I am well-used to aiding younger students from my own experiences and I look forward to doing the same for students as a professional tutor.
