I gained valuable knowledge and insight into teaching and learning through the ‘Curriculum for Wales’. This has been very beneficial and has given me strong foundations in both my knowledge and understanding of the new curriculum, such as the 12 pedagogical principles and the Four Purposes, which I have since been able to continue to build on through my teaching and continued professional development. During my placements, I consistently upheld high personal and professional standards, demonstrating exceptional commitment. This commitment has continued in my capacity as a supply teacher, with numerous schools frequently requesting my return during my NQT year. Not only has this up-to-date knowledge been instrumental in my own teaching successes but it has also meant that I have been able to share valuable information within my current setting which has significantly impacted their implementation of the Curriculum for Wales. A valuable part of the course included the dedicated Cymraeg module which has given me the knowledge and strategies to teach Cymraeg as a second language.

I use various strategies to provide support to children who encounter additional obstacles, such as those with More Able and Talented (MAT), Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL). When necessary, I create and adhere to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Individual Development Plans (IDPs).

I believe it is extremely important to show all children that you care about and understand them and that their views are listened to when managing their behaviour. To support this, I place great emphasis on getting to know all aspects of the child and their motivations.
