In my tutoring lessons I prefer to focus on past paper questions as I believe these are the most effective way to prepare for exams. With this method, I can identify the areas in which the student is struggling and target those in future sessions. I like to keep my sessions interactive and will encourage the student to ask questions and let me know what areas of the subject they would like to focus on. I am also comfortable with incorporating videos and diagrams into my teaching for students who learn better with visual prompts. I find that it can be useful to provide students with some homework questions to complete between sessions as this allows me to assess whether they understand and can apply the knowledge independently. However, if the student finds that the added pressure of homework is too much then I am perfectly happy to omit this. At the start of each session I will ask a couple of questions which are relevant to the information taught in the previous session; this allows me to assess whether the student is retaining the knowledge.
